You Are Traffic
Have you ever been stuck in traffic?
Of course you have.
Have you ever been stuck in traffic and either out loud or in your head gone “Bloody traffic! Get a move on!”
I bet you have. I did it this morning.
Here’s the thing.
You are traffic.
When you’re in your car in the traffic, you’re part of the traffic.
You’re contributing to the problem.
“But I’m only trying to get from here to there!”
Just like everyone else on the road.
Next time you find yourself frustrated that things aren’t going how you’d like them to go, you might want to ask yourself this question (which I’ve borrowed from world-class executive coach Jerry Colonna):
“How am I complicit in creating the conditions I say I don’t want?”
Because, inevitably, you are in some way complicit.
When we blame others for the situation we find ourselves in, we don’t own our part in creating it.
When we own our part, we can go from being a part of the problem to a part of the solution.
What opportunity do you have to ask yourself, and answer that question today?
