Coaching With Digby

I want to help make it easier for you to decide whether I’m the right coach for you. Here’s some information that explains a bit about who I am, who I best work with, and the approach I take to helping you get what you need from coaching. If you’ve watched the video, and your answer is “yes, I’d like to work with Digby”, I’ll ask you to complete some short questions (at the bottom of this page) and send them to me, so I can get an idea of who you are and whether I’m able to help you.

In brief, my story is that I have been ‘in over my head’ more times than I care to remember! I’m always looking for ways to make a difference, and that usually means I need to stretch myself. In these situations, I’ve thrived when I’ve had an objective sounding board to help me not just keep my head above water, but to get right above the water to take a broader perspective. That person helps me test out my assumptions, make some informed choices, step into my fears, take deliberate action. To me, that’s gold. That’s what coaching is about, and that’s what I aim to do when I work with my coaching clients. To learn more about me, check out this video.

Who do I work best with?

I like to work with people I call ‘restless go-getters’ – the people who Steve Jobs would say ‘want to make a dent in the universe’. They’re on a mission to make a difference. My job is to help them develop the confidence and skills to step up and make the impact they want to make.

If that sounds like you, then we are onto something!

What sorts of things do I help with?

Here are some of the questions my clients want help with:

  • How can I keep a balance, manage my energy, resilience amidst the chaos?
  • How can I stay true to what I am about and what I am here to do?
  • How can I position myself as a valuable person and be in demand?
  • How can I reshape myself as an influential leader, not simply a technical expert?
  • How do I get traction in a new role?
  • Where am I going in my career? How can I find the role / place that is “me”? How can I stay relevant / current?
  • How can I manage relationships more effectively?
  • How can I influence – get people to buy into my ideas?
  • How do I ensure I don’t get stuck in the weeds and keep a broader perspective?
  • How do I get the best out of my people? How can I be a better coach?

What I don’t do is specialise in specific skills development in areas like presentation skills, conflict management, time management, project management etc. There are plenty of people out there who can do that better than me!

How I work

Your role: you do the work. You bring the agenda and that’s what we work with. You’re responsible for making the changes you want to make. So that means taking deliberate action in between our sessions, and taking the time to reflect on what you’re learning.

My role is to guide, prod, challenge, ask the hard questions, give feedback and to help you stay accountable to what you say you’ll do. I’ll keep you at your ‘learning edge’. It’s not always comfortable there, but that’s where the learning happens.

I work over time with my clients. The minimum period is usually 6 months, as I find that what it takes to embed real changes.

Rather than ad-hoc sessions, I offer a coaching package for a set fee, which includes a number of coaching sessions, plus access to me for short phones calls, emails and also resources. Think of it more like a retainer.

Coaching sessions usually last between 45 mins to 90 minutes, and we can structure the frequency and timing of those to work for us both. Depending on where we both are on the planet, we can meet face to face and / or work over Skype or phone.

Life can get busy, so before each session, you’ll get a prompt from me asking you to reflect on what you’ve done, what happened as a result, and what you’ve learned, as well as what you think will be most important to focus on in our next conversation.

If all of this sounds good to you, please complete the form below this video. It’s designed to help you clarify your thinking about what you most want from the coaching, and to help me get a sense of where you’re coming from. Send this off to me and I’ll be in touch from there.

Also, as a bonus, download my free Weekly Planning Template. I’ve used this every week for the past three years and it has been hugely helpful to keep me on track and pay attention to what’s most important to me. It’s got instructions on it as well as a blank template for you to use. I hope it’s useful to you.

And I hope this video has been useful in helping you make a decision on whether I am the right coach for you. Even if you’ve decided I’m not the right person, fill out the template anyway (you don’t need to send it). You’ll get more clarity about what you want just by doing so!
